01. Q: May I know how does the 1/2 experience trip work? It says we can visit any 3 of the 7 stops in min of 4 days.

A: The Half Experience enables you to choose 3 of the 6 destination outside of Winnipeg (ie. Stop 1 - Falcon Lake, Stop 2 - Minaki, Stop 3 - Grand Beach) and enables you to spend as long or short (minimum 1-night) at each one of these destinations. So, if you decide to visit three places the fastest you could do the half experience tour would be 4 days and 3 nights.

02. Q: I am planning to hike the Mantario trail this June and I was wondering whether you offer shuttle service between the north and south trail heads. If so, what is the departure/arrival schedule and what is the fare?

A: Technically the only "shuttle" service we offer between the two trail heads is daily service from South to North and is a part of either our Sample, Half, or Full Experience tours.

Most travelers/backpackers/hikers get dropped off at the South Trail Head and hike the whole trail and get picked up again at the North Trail head, or less frequently they get dropped off at the South or North trails heads and hike in for a day or two and then hike back out the same way they came in.

03. Q: I am coming to Canada for the summer, and might come alone or with a companion. I have a budget of around $2,000. Do you have any good ideas?

A: Ultimately, I would recommend that you visit all regions in Canada - The west Coast/Rockies, then the prairies, then Toronto/Niagra falls, then the east coast. Given a $2,000 budget though this will be next to impossible.

At minimum you'll need to budget about $25/night for hostel/lodging and $25 for food & drink (unless you cook all your own meals all the time or eat fast food everyday) which equals $50/day in hard cost or $1,000 over 20 days. So that leaves you $1,000 for overland transport and activities. Which will enable you to visit and see all the regions of Canada (mentioned above) but won't give you any money to do activities and side tours. To do that you'll need another $1,000.

If you don't care about seeing all of Canada then select one of the regions - the west coast is most popular with travellers and have the mountains, the prairies is the most off the beaten track experience and have the lakes, the Toronto area is a concrete jungle but is close to Niagra falls (if your into seeing water fall off a cliff) and the east coast is unique in culture and it too is off the beaten track.

I would recommend you try to see all of Canada, but you'll need a budget of $3,000-$4,000 (you're only here once):

Arrive in Vancouver and stay at the Samesun Vancouver backpacker hostel.  Take in the sites of the city for a couple days, then buy a CanRail pass from ViaRail - this is a hop-on-off pass from Vancouver (West Coast) to Halifax (East Coast) for $753 CDN.

Jump on the train in Vancouver and take it to Jasper. Get off in Jasper and stay at the HI-Jasper Hostel and take in the Rocky Mountains in Jasper National park for a day or two, then jump on the Moose travel bus to Banff (3 hrs south and $130 CDN return ticket). Stay at the HI-Banff Alpine Centre or the SameSun Banff hostel and enjoy the nightlife and Banff National park for two or three days. Leave banff and get back to Jasper to catch the train en-route to Edmonton. Stay at the Hi - Edmonton Hostel. Visit Edmonton for a day or two then jump back on the train and jump-off again in Winnipeg. Stay at the HI-Winnipeg Ivey House Hostel. Visit the highlights of Winnipeg for a day then jump on our 3-destination trip $199 that will take you into the cottage country where you can horseback ride, wakeboard, hike, and fish. Then jump on the train again in Minaki and take it all the way to Toronto. Stay at either the GlobalVillage backpackers or the Canadiana. See the sites in Toronto for a couple of days. Then take the day trip on Moose travel or Magic bus to Niagra Falls ($55 CDN). Get back to Toronto and jump back on the train to get up to Montreal. Stay at the HI-Montreal. See the sites in Montreal for two or three days then jump back on the train to get to Halifax where you should jump on four day Island Hopper tour guided by Salty bear Adventure for $259 CDN.

That's it. If you do all that you'll have seen ALL of Canada and be ready for home.

04. Q: How much does a pass cost and what does the pass get me?

A: The price of a pass depends of the number of destinations you want to visit. Our passes are $69, $169, $369, and $669 CAD plus GST (5%). Each pass gets you a Toban shirt, a round trip, hop-on, hop-off, guided transportation through the destinations you choose, along with special discounted "Toban rates" at our Preferred Lodging Providers.

05. Q: Can I start my experience at any of your tour stops?

A: Yes, you can begin at any of our tour stops, and end at the place you started or anywhere before the place you started.  Most people start their adventure in Winnipeg but some start elswhere.

For instance, if you're on your way from Toronto to Vancouver on the Via Rail train, you can get off the train in Minaki, hop on the Toban Experience, hike the Mantario Trail, visit Grand Beach and then get off in Winnipeg, where you can then re-board the Via train to continue your journey, or continue on our experience and visit Falcon Lake and Kenora on your way back to Minaki where you can re-board the Via train from there.

06. Q: Can I go back to a place that I've already been or previously chose to skip?

A: Our experience is only one way at this time, this means that the only way you'll get back to a place you've been or skipped is by buying another pass.

07. Q: What's the maximum amount of time I can stay at one of the tour stops?

A: There is NO maximum!  We are an entirely flexible tour that allows you to stay as long as you want in each destination, without having to worry about ticket expiry and other limitations.  We have daily service, unless otherwise indicated, and you can reserve your seat and ride with us any day you like, right up until our service stops for the season in mid-October.

08. Q: Does the Toban Experience book lodging for me?

A: We can help you find lodging, but ultimately our lodging partners want to speak with you directly. Please see our lodging page or call 1-888-35-TOBAN for a list of our lodging providers. Be sure to mention that you are our guest.

09. Q: Do I have to stay with your preferred lodging Providers?

A: No, you can stay wherever you like in the destinations we visit. If you decide to stay somewhere other then our preferred lodging providers you will have to let us know when you reserve your seat so we can arrange to drop off at you lodging of choice.

10. Q: What are the legal drinking ages in the locations on the trip?

A: Minaki and Kenora are in the Province of Ontario, which has a drinking age of 19 or above.  All other destinations are in Manitoba, where the age is 18 or above.
